The Sunshine Coast is bracing for another heatwave – and the possibility of thunderstorm.

The Bureau is predicting Friday’s maximum to hit 31C, with a thunderstorm possible in the afternoon or evening.

The weekend is looking awesome for the beach but make sure you slip, slop and slap with temps sneaking up to 31C on Saturday and 34C on Sunday with clear skies and north-easterly breezes.

The Bureau predicts Monday and Tuesday to be just as hot with a top of 34C, with a possible shower developing.

The north to north-westerly winds are expected to strengthen 25-40km/h during the day and then the Coast will get a short break from the warm weather on Wednesday when the maximum will fall to 27C, accompanied by a welcome shower or two.

The northerly winds in recent days has seen big crowds at protected Kings Beach (pictured) at Caloundra, with locals and visitors enjoying a swim, snorkel or stroll along the boardwalk.

Those heading to the beach this weekend are advised to swim only between the red and yellow flags.

Mooloolaba will host a major surfboat carnival Saturday between 8am and 3pm.
