From Australia Day to saving lives – there’s always something to do on the Sunshine Coast

Mary Valley Rattler Australia Day Celebrations

The Mary Valley Rattler will recognise the efforts of emergency and front-line workers in 2020 on Australia Day. A special Aussie Express train service will steam out of Gympie Station at 10am on Australia Day carrying frontline and emergency service personnel as a thank you for their dedicated efforts. The community is also invited to join the celebrations with a Family Fun Day at the historic Gympie Station including free kids activities and free entertainment, with local favourites Junction Road, Gympie Blues Club, Aspy Jones and Minnie Marks performing throughout the day. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from the Rusty Rails Café.

Sea Shepherd Australia Beach Clean

If you’re looking for a meaningful new year’s resolution, then why not commit to protecting the Coast’s beaches and oceans. It’s a great way to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. The Sunshine Coast Sea Shepherd team will participate in the CleanUp for the Hatchlings annual beach cleaning event in conjunction with the Sunshine Coast Council. The clean-up will be conducted at Dicky Beach, and all the debris collected will be sorted and counted onsite and transported for further analysis. Gloves are compulsory and will be not be provided so please bring your own.
