Motorists can look forward to a smoother and safer drive in and around the Bruce Highway’s bustling Johnston Road interchange at Glass House Mountains.
The State Government has announced it will start work on its fifth resurfacing project on the Sunshine Coast in the past eight months.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the latest $1 million project would see 1.5km of road resurfaced, including the southbound and northbound on and off-ramps.
“Our investment in the Bruce Highway continues to deliver safer roads,” Mr Bailey said.
“This resurfacing work will take place northbound at the Johnston Road interchange to both southbound and northbound on and off-ramps.
“Ramp resurfacing is more complex, requiring additional traffic management and planning, but it’s more efficient to resurface them while we are already working on the highway.”
Mr Bailey said access to the service centres would be maintained at all times with traffic controllers on site to manage traffic in and around the businesses.
“Work is expected to take about three weeks to complete and will be undertaken from 8pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday, weather and construction conditions permitting.
“Clearly signed detours will direct motorists to alternative routes while the ramps are being resurfaced and reduced speed limits will be in place to ensure the safety of our road workers and other motorists.”
Mr Bailey thanked road users for their patience and cooperation while the works, part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $12.6 billion Bruce Highway Upgrade Program, are underway.
“The spotlight is on the Bruce, with record spending on projects including the Deception Bay Road Interchange upgrade, six lanes for the Bruce between Caboolture-Bribie Island Road and Steve Irwin Way, and Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway upgrade,” he said.
The Johnston Road interchange works follow Bruce Highway resurfacing recently completed on:
- 3km northbound from the Nambour-Bli Bli Road interchange
- 5km southbound from Eumundi-Noosa Road to Yandina
- 3km southbound from the Johnston Road interchange
- 5km between Cooroy and Eumundi
