An impressive line-up of former rugby league stars is set to attend the Sunshine Coast Hotels’ Steak of Origin lunch on Friday, June 18.

Up to 17 ex-Origin players are expected at the event, to be held at The Lakehouse, Brightwater.

There will be one player per table, with 170 guests in total.

Maroons legends Alf Langer, Trevor Gilmeister, Shane Webcke and Willie Carne will be there, along with Blues greats Benny Elias, Paul Sironen and Chris Johns.

Former cricketer Greg ‘Fat Cat’ Ritchie will entertain the gathering as guests raise money for local charity DV Safe Phones, supporting victims of domestic violence.

Sunshine Coast Hotels owner Scott Armstrong said they were extremely pleased to host the function, which had sold out during the first week of ticket sales.

“One in 10 people in the room will have played Origin which has to be a first for any function on the Sunshine Coast,” he said.

“We’ll be tasting beef from the Riverina, NSW and Darling Downs, Queensland and putting Tooheys great brews from NSW against the best that XXXX has to offer, all in support of a worthy local charity.”
