The next generation of Sunshine Coast surfers have displayed their potential in the second and final event of this year’s Queensland Grommet Titles.
Peregian Beach’s Pipi Taylor won the girls under-12 section, while Sunshine Beach’s Darcy Dwyer won the boys under-14 competition.
The event was held in clean but small waves at Coolum Beach on Sunday, when local surfers seemed to make the most of home break knowledge.
Pipi scored 14.17 points, to stave off Currumbin Waters’ Indy Slattery (7.70).
“It was a bit slow out there. We had to wait for the best waves to come in, ” she told Surfing Queensland, after claiming wins in both legs of the series.
“I’m really happy that I’ve won the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast events.”
Darcy won his section by scoring 10.90, to overcome Noosa’s Mitchell Peterson (10.87), in an all-Sunshine Coast final, which also featured Moffat Beach’s Hunter Andersson and Peregian Springs’ Hayden Danswan.

“It was smaller than yesterday and pretty challenging,” Darcy said.
“I was just trying to keep busy and be patient so when I had priority, I picked off the best waves.
Like Pipi, he also won both events of the series.
Gold Coast’s Lucas Deffenti won the under-12 boys division, beating a trio of Sunshine Coasters.
Gold Coast’s Meika Locke won the under-14 girls competition.
Several Sunshine Coasters earned berths in the state team.
