Point Cartwright water reservoir will once again be a focal point of original artwork after the community had its say.

Unitywater acting executive manager for customer and community Pauline Thomson thanked the community for voting on the renewal project on the exterior wall.

“It’s important to Unitywater to understand what the community would like to see on this iconic landmark and for the design to reflect the local identity and community values,” she said.

“With nearly two-thirds in favour of the original artwork, we’re pleased to announce that the beloved local marine life, including whales and turtles, and the native Richmond Birdwing Butterfly will be back after a much-needed repaint.”

The artwork on the 17m tall landmark, which can be seen from land, sea and air, needed a refresh after five years of weathering the conditions of salt spray, sun exposure and high winds.

“It’s an iconic and timeless design that the community wants to see back where it belongs,” Ms Thomson said.

“We can’t wait to see this piece come to life for a second time when our artists begin painting early next year.”

Unitywater’s community artwork program transforms reservoirs, water towers and pump stations across Moreton Bay, the Sunshine Coast and Noosa through colourful designs that reflect and enhance the local environment.

The program is designed to prevent graffiti and enhance the appearance of Unitywater assets.
