While many people spent the weekend haunting the shops for last-minute Christmas present bargains, there was a different kind of shopping spree out in the suburbs.

The number of properties for auction hasn’t declined, even with Christmas a few days away, and neither has the energy of the Sunshine Coast’s residential market.

Define Property principal Ross Cattle reported his agency had an outstanding auction success rate of six from six.

Meanwhile, Ray White’s weekend auction of 15 properties attracted a solid number of bidders, chief auctioneer Jake Loiero said.

“The buyers are out in force looking at purchasing property for the new year,” he said.

“Bidding has been strong at the majority of auctions.

“Leading up to Christmas it’s remained a very strong market.”

Big sale for Kureelpa

A four-bedroom home surrounded by lush green paddocks, out on an old dairy farm at 21 Purli Road in Kureelpa, attracted six registered bidders from the Sunshine Coast.

With Poona Dam providing the backdrop to the weekend auction, five of the bidders started bidding in earnest.

“The number of bidders started to peter out around the $2.1 million,” Ray White agent Matt O’Grady said.

“After that, it was one versus one.”

Soon it was bids of tens and then fives, before being sold under the hammer for $2.180m.

The buyer will move in his family of two boys, one of which is an equestrian show-jumper.

“They have bought it to run horses,” Mr O’Grady said.

“It’s a big sale for the area.”

Position, position, position

The hotly-contested three-bedroom home at 63 Sunbird Chase in Parrearra attracted 15 registered bidders.

“It was incredible,” Define Property listing agent Ross Cattle said.

“The bidding started strong and just kept going.”

Unrenovated since being constructed 40 years ago, the house sold under the hammer for $956,000.

The house is located just a short walk to the newly-expanded Kawana Shopping Centre and large Kawana Waters Hotel.

It’s also a short walk to the canal-front walkways and green areas.

“It’s a very central location,” Mr Cattle said.

“For a house like that in that area, it would probably be a new record. For a non-waterfront property in that area, that would be the highest price ever seen in Parrearra,” he added.

On the other side of town, the auction at 5/17-19 Maroochy Waters Drive in Maroochydore was huge.

A group of 18 registered bidders wanted this three-bedroom townhouse with its massive courtyard and central location.

“It has a bigger yard than the combination of two houses in one of the new developments,” Mr Cattle said.

“Really suitable for a family.”

The bidding started strongly and became competitive quickly, reaching the owner’s expectations.

“It then went beyond that,” Mr Cattle said.

The property sold under the hammer to an owner-occupier for $572,000.

Small street with big heart

A “beautiful young family” from NSW were the successful bidders for the four-bedroom home at 2 Yilleen Court in Mooloolaba.

Mr Cattle said it was another great result.

Six registered bidders fought hard for the home located in a short street of five or so houses.

A family from NSW were the successful bidders for the four-bedroom home at 2 Yilleen Court.

“The house and street are perfect for a family,” he added.

“There is a lot of pride in this neighbourhood.”

The house sold under the hammer to the owner-occupier for $1.725m.

“I had a couple of neighbours come up and shake my hand after the auction and say they thought it was a really good result and wanted to talk to me after Christmas about their place,” Mr Cattle said.

Eumundi gem

Define Property listing agent Jordan Barden topped off a successful weekend of three sales from three auctions by closing the deal on the north-facing vacant lot at 4 Pacey Street in Eumundi.

The late afternoon auction was another big affair.

“It was spirited bidding,” auctioneer Ross Cattle said.

“It came down from six to three bidders in the end. They kept pushing each other.

“There was one bidder going in ones (thousands) and another bidder going in tens while another was going in fives.”

The property finally sold under the hammer for $570,000.

“It’s gone to a lovely couple who are going to build their dream home,” Mr Barden said.
