The region’s top cycling team’s fast start to the year has just gone up another gear.

The Australian Cycling Academy’s Pro Racing Sunshine Coast has had 28 wins already and their great form was on Thursday followed up with the announcement of a partnership with local car dealer, Cricks.

It’s been an impressive campaign so far in 2021. They claimed seven national titles and Maeve Plouffe recently made history by winning the inaugural women’s Melbourne to Warrnambool, the longest women’s race in Australia (160km).

“I don’t think that I’ve done a race that hard before,” she said.

“I was really looking forward to being part of this first Warrnambool. Every woman out there wanted to be part of that history and animate the race.”

Fellow squad member Cam Scott also won the men’s edition (267km), while a number of the academy’s under-19 riders have also been selected to travel to Europe in May, as part of an AusCycling Training Camp.

Australian Cycling Academy CEO Matt Wilson was delighted with their start to their season.

“Our riders have stepped up in a big way this year, and we couldn’t achieve what we have without the unwavering support from our sponsors, so we’re very excited to welcome Cricks Volkswagen to partner with us on this journey.” he said.

The riders are geared for the next two years after signing a partnership with the prominent car dealer, based at Maroochydore.

The team members have had their first look at their new team cars.

Matt was thrilled with the partnership.

“To have the backing of a premium car brand like VW is testament to some fantastic work by our riders and staff,” he said.

“Volkswagen and the ACA share many aligned philosophies when it comes to business and life. We very much looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together over the coming years.”

Cricks has been a part of the Sunshine Coast for more than 25 years and with the Volkswagen brand since the year 2000.

Cricks Volkswagen Sunshine Coast Dealer Principal, Dean Stuart, said the dealership was looking forward to supporting the riders.

“There is so much to like about how ACA operate, that it made the decision for Cricks Volkswagen to partner with them an easy one,” he said.

“It’s more than just our provision of transport … we share similar values for our people involved which is nice and we certainly have the benefit of learning from an elite organisation. That’s what partnerships are all about.”
