There is no doubt Australian consumers love finding a bargain when it comes to shopping.

In fact, in 2021, Australians spent more than $8 billion on Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals – twice what was spent over the Boxing Day weekend.

Traditionally, Black Friday sales coincide with the USA Thanksgiving holiday on November 25. It is now big business in Australia, and this year the Sunshine Coast will be ready with customers being encouraged Think SUNSHINE this Black Friday.

Being just four weeks before Christmas, it is the perfect time to be thinking about gifts and things to do with loved ones.

Buy Local Sunshine Coast founder Claire Parkinson is encouraging the local community to support local businesses across the Black Friday sales and into the Christmas period.

She said November 25 presented a “massive” opportunity for local businesses to provide value to customers and keep spending within the Sunshine Coast region.

She has asked everyone to consider how we can make the best choice for the community.

Claire Parkinson.

“Supporting a local business has never been so important and with thousands of amazing businesses here on the Coast, we urge you to think local first,” Ms Parkinson said.

“Every dollar spent here supports families, neighbours, friends, sporting groups and much more.

“Your choice this season must be local – time to put your money where your house is.”

Businesses are encouraged to engage in the Black Friday campaign by posting a short video on social media.

In doing so, they have a chance to win a marketing pack worth $5000 and be featured in the region-wide campaign.

Here is what businesses need to do to participate:

  1. Grab your phone and record a fun, creative video about your business and what you have planned for November 25 – deal, event, gift, or charity – it can be anything.
  2. Post it on Facebook or Instagram using the tag @buylocalsunshinecoast and use hashtags #buylocalsunshinecoast, #blackfridaysunshinecoast and #blackfriday.
  3. Alternatively, visit the Buy Local Sunshine Coast Black Friday website, complete the form, and upload the video, and it will be shared for you.
  4. While there download the media pack, which includes digital assets you can use on your website, socials, email newsletters and in-store. Let your customers know you have something exciting to check out for Black Friday.

“Join the movement and make buying local part of the conversation,” Ms Parkinson said.

“Encouraging our local community to shop where they see the Buy Local Black Friday signs during November means you’ll not only save money but you’re helping support jobs and businesses locally too.

“From the team at Buy Local Sunshine Coast, thank you for supporting local.”

Think Sunshine this Black Friday will be promoted throughout the Sunshine Coast region on Sunshine Coast News, My Weekly Preview, HOT91FM, email newsletters and social media.

It is also proudly supported by ADFX and Sunshine Coast Council.
