Rodeo thrills and spills 

Polish up those boots! The country is coming to the Coast. The Bulls and Broncs Rodeo brings some of Australia’s best competitors from across the country for a fun night out the whole family will enjoy. Britpop music takeover 

NightQuarter is throwing itself back to Britain in the mid-1990s. Experience an explosion of Britpop anthems across three stages. All the hits from Oasis, The Verve, Blur, Supergrass and more will be performed live on the main stage by Cool Britannia. DJs and musicians across NightQuarter also will be bringing the Britpop era to life.

Swan Lake performance 

The Royal Czech Ballet will visit Australia for the first time with Swan Lake – the most-loved classical ballet of them all. This masterpiece is presented in two acts and follows the original storyline with traditional choreographic revisions by Marius Pepita. Swan Lake is the love story of Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with Odette. Odette is under a spell: a swan by day; a woman at night. The spell can only be broken by a man who will pledge his love forever. Love and forgiveness in the end conquer evil and betrayal. The Royal Czech Ballet features elite dancers from France, Italy, Moldova and Ukraine.

Chamber music concert 

Airplay usually confines its concerts to a symphonic setting. So, Sunshine Coast music lovers should enjoy this rare treat of the wind trio in its rich and warm embrace in the hinterland. From delightful Devienne and playful Poulenc to the undeniable brilliance and virtuosity of Sutherland, Piston and Villa-Lobos, this evening promises to be a sumptuous experience. Join one of Brisbane’s leading chamber music collectives in the gorgeous heritage-listed Montville Village Hall. With woodwind playing at its finest, this concert is not to be missed.

Oktoberfest lunch and show 

Head along and celebrate Oktoberfest with friends at the Caloundra RSL. A spectacular day of entertainment is planned, coupled with a two-course German-themed lunch (main meal and dessert). National tree day clean-up 

Help to create a plastic-free sea by cleaning our beaches and replanting our dunes. Sunshine Coast Council is hosting a beach clean-up and dune planting for National Tree Day at North Shore beach at Twin Waters. Help sort the debris and learn more about source reduction and the Australian Marine Debris Initiative database. Our dunes need all the help they can get. So, make it a day at the beach and head along to learn about our coastal environment by exploring the Coastal Discovery Van and other exciting displays.

Comedian’s latest tour 

Rory Lowe is an internationally-touring comedian, who has amassed tens of millions of views online and supported Netflix comedians such as Bert Kreischer, Andrew Schulz and Jim Jefferies. Huge film festival 

The nation’s biggest regional short film festival is set to return with its biggest program in 16 years, at a new venue. The Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival will return to Gympie with world premieres of award-winning films, free talks on everything from food farming to film composing, podcasting classes, community singalongs, virtual reality painting lessons, and a ‘ballgowns and boots’ opening night soirée, the festival celebrates the connection between regional Australia and the global arts scene. This edition of the festival includes 170 short films crafted into 40 feature-length sessions programmed around themes from ‘Family Dynamics’ to ‘Real Stories with Heart’.

When: Thursday, October 27, to Sunday,October 30, 9am to 11pm.

Daytime screening of a classic

Celebrate Queensland Seniors month with a daytime screening of an Australian classic film Hosted by Sunshine Coast Libraries, come along and enjoy the bold fashions, big hair, and feel-good soundtrack of Muriel’s Wedding, a 1994 Australian comedy-drama film written and directed by P.J. Hogan. The film, which stars Toni Collette, Rachel Griffiths, Jeanie Drynan, Sophie Lee, and Bill Hunter, focuses on the socially awkward Muriel whose ambition is to have a glamorous wedding and improve her personal life by moving from her dead-end hometown, the fictional Porpoise Spit, to Sydney.

When: Tuesday, October 18, doors open at 9.30am for a 10am screening.

Bankfoot House experience

The musical kids show that has taken Brisbane by storm is heading to the Sunshine Coast.
