Clubs are poised to benefit from a $1.8m boost to one of the region’s main sports venues.
A new multipurpose facility will be built at Noosa District Sports Complex, including four change rooms, a kitchen, six unisex toilets, storage space, a first aid and umpire room and large multi-purpose area.
Mayor Clare Stewart said the upgrades would bolster several sports, clubs and teams.
“In a fantastic boost for one of our shire’s fastest growing sports, the project includes two undercover pickleball courts, which will give the local club a place to call home,” she said.
“The additional facilities will support a number of sports clubs based at the complex including the cricket, netball and car clubs.
“It will support the current and future demands of the complex and address the current shortage of toilet facilities, which is being met with portable facilities at present,”

Council awarded the tender to Murphy Builders Qld Pty. Work will start in January and it’s hoped to be completed by the end of June.
The project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government, in association with Noosa Council and the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund.
Council is contributing $800,000 towards the project with $1 million in grant funding.
Cr Joe Jurisevic said it was a “win-win” situation.
“Having the funding means we can deliver a top quality and long-awaited facility in one hit to benefit the sports clubs based at McKinnon Drive, while saving ratepayers from covering the full cost of the project,” he said.
“We’re also pleased to receive funding from Zero Emissions Noosa to support the installation of solar panels, which will help reduce this important local facility’s carbon footprint and support our net-zero emissions target.”
Mayor Stewart said the facility upgrade was a great example of grass-roots spending to deliver important tangible infrastructure for the local community.
