This piece of wearable art puts the “period” into 18th century period inspired design.
An award-winning Sunshine Coast designer’s gown made mostly from women’s sanitary products is sure to turn heads and get tongues wagging at an upcoming arts festival event dinner.
The in-your-face dress will feature in a wearable art parade by designers’ Larissa Salton and Denise Lamby as part of the first of its kind, The Sculpted Dinner event.
The parade is also set to feature the renowned feather crown made for Lady Gaga by Gympie artist Cyndi Vogels, and an illuminated inflatable installation by local artist Kari Didi.
Award-winning designer Ms Salton said the 18th century “Period” Queen gown created from U by Kotex tampons and sanitary pads was made by herself but curated by Mooloolaba artist Ms Lamby because she was currently abroad.

“The Gown I am showing was a recent installation for a three-day exhibition at Brisbane for female products awareness and the lack of availability to women from poor countries or who have been through difficult times,” Ms Salton said.
“I was supplied with a box of seconds and asked to create a dress of my choice.
“The 18th century “Period” Queen” was created (it’s) quite a talking piece.”
Ms Salton’s Renaissance-inspired wearable art asks its audience to step into a world of pure imagination.
The award-winnning photographer and Wearable Art designer weaves her spellbinding charms into each of her creations and by recycling things of old, and conjuring them into stunning works of art.
“I create wearable art that reflects my heart and emotions as I breathes life and imagination into each creation,” Ms Salton said.
“My wearable art can be anything from whimsical and mysterious to old-world renaissance with pagan charm.”
