A business that stormed the United States pet market has created the ultimate Christmas gift for dogs.

Coolum-based Huds and Toke was already riding a wave of success with its dog treats, which are dressed as donuts.

It linked with giant coffee and donut chain Krispy Kreme to expand its reach in America and sold about 300,000 ‘doggie doughnuts’ within one weekend in August, to coincide with International Dog Day.

Business owner Russell Gibbons said it was “one of the best marketing campaigns” he’d been involved in.

The product was even featured on American television.

“It was incredible to get that type of exposure,” Mr Gibbons said. “People love their pets and this idea (of dog donuts in a Krispy Kreme box) was fun.

“It’s a light-hearted treat that is designed for you to have fun with your pet and I think that resonated with people.”

Delicious Christmas donuts for dogs.

Now, an exclusive Christmas campaign on domestic shores has tongues and tails wagging.

Huds and Toke and Krispy Kreme have released Christmas themed dog donuts.

They are donuts that are coloured red, green and white, consisting of a range of all natural dog delicacies like wholemeal flour, apple cider vinegar, peanut butter, carob and yoghurt, and packaged in the renowned Krispy Kreme box.

“You could buy them alongside some Krispy Kreme donuts for yourself or you could give them, as a gift, to people who love their dog,” Mr Gibbons said.

Full of festive flavour.

They’re available, in boxes of four, via the Krispy Kreme network in Australia and New Zealand, for $10.95.

Huds and Toke was formed 10 years ago when Russell and Emma Gibbons noticed a gap in the market for a delicious, healthy and fun dog treat that was not made from meat.

Mr Gibbons said they were inspired to create the dog donuts to bring joy to owners and pets.

“It’s a kooky, cool and fun,” he said.

“We felt that there a whole lot of stress in the world and a lot of people trying to solve a lot of big problems … but pets make people happy, and we wanted to come up with a fun idea for you and your dog that that is light in nature and makes you smile and spend time with your pet.”
