Sunday, February 5, 6pm: A person was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, in a stable condition, after a motorcycle crash on Kenilworth Skyring Creek Road and Peacons Pocket Road at Tuchekoi at 4.30pm.
Sunday, February 5, 3pm: A patient was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition after falling from a rope swing at Gardners Falls off Obi Lane, Maleny, at 1.24pm.
Sunday, February 5, 1pm: Three patients were transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in stable conditions after a two-vehicle crash on Albany Street and Claymore Road, Sippy Downs, at 11.15am.
Sunday, February 5, 12.05pm: The heatwave warning for the Sunshine Coast was cancelled late Saturday afternoon. During its peak on Friday, Maroochydore reached 31.8 degrees Celsius, Noosa 33.4 and Nambour 35.4 but the humidity, dew point and light northerly winds made the apparent temperature, or ‘feels like’, higher. Partly cloudy conditions and temperatures of up to about 29 were expected for the next few days.
Saturday, February 4, 6am: One patient was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition after an incident involving a vehicle and a motorbike on the Bruce Highway at Palmview at 8.09pm on Friday.
Friday, February 3, 4.30pm: Police from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol have charged a 50-year-old woman after she allegedly returned a 0.419 per cent blood-alcohol reading, a potentially lethal dose, following a two-vehicle crash in Nambour in December.
About 4.20pm on Friday, December 30, police attended a two-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of Lamington Terrace and Magnolia Street in Nambour.
The driver and sole occupant of one of the vehicles, a 50-year-old Sunshine Coast woman, was transported to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
A blood specimen was taken, with subsequent analysis detecting an alleged blood-alcohol concentration of 0.419 per cent.
The woman’s licence was immediately suspended and she has been charged with driving under the influence of liquor.
She is expected to appear before Nambour Magistrates Court on February 6.
Friday, February 3, 11.50am: A person was transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital after a single-vehicle collided with a pole on Doherty Street at Birtinya at 10.34am. The person was in a stable condition.
Friday, February 3, 7.40am: A person was taken to Nambour Hospital, in a stable condition, after a reported snake bite at a private property at Pomona at 6.34am. There have been several snake bites in the region.
Friday, February 3, 6.30am: Thousands of people are converging on Sunshine Coast Stadium and Kawana Sports Precinct, for the Queensland Oztag Junior State Cup. Dozens of teams from around Queensland will compete for state titles in multiple divisions, from under-10s to under-17s. The event will be held from Friday to Sunday.
Friday, February 3, 4.50am: Severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue today, with the temperature hitting 34 degrees Celsius at Maroochydore, 34 at Caloundra, 34 at Noosa and 36 at Nambour. There’s also the chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening.
Thursday, February 2, 5.15pm: A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for a storm cell in the vicinity of Gympie, Kandanga and Amamoor.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the storm was likely to produce heavy rain that may lead to flash flooding, and could generate damaging wind gusts.
Thursday, February 2, 3pm: Hot and muggy weather is continuing over much of eastern Queensland, with a severe heatwave. There is a heatwave warning for several districts. In the south-east, daytime temperatures will peak on Friday, but significant relief won’t arrive until Sunday.
Thursday, February 2, noon: Paramedics were called to the scene of a machinery rollover on a private property at Obi Obi in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
A rescue helicopter had been tasked.
The patient was taken in a serious condition to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
Wednesday, February 1, 4pm: A total of 193 customers in Coolum Beach were continuing to be affected by a power outage, according to the Energex website.
Wednesday, February 1, 4pm: Two patients were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital following a two-vehicle crash reported on Yandina-Coolum Road, Yandina Creek, at 2.13pm on Wednesday.
Wednesday, February 1, 2.45pm: A power outage was affecting more than 1000 customers on the Sunshine Coast.
According to the Energex website, 949 customers were affected at Coolum Beach, 328 at Yaroomba and 171 at Point Arkwright.
The cause of the outage was under investigation.
Wednesday, February 1, 12.30pm: The Bureau of Meteorology issued a forecast at 10am, saying that severe thunderstorms are possible in northern and eastern Queensland today. Heavy rainfall is the main threat, but damaging winds are also possible with severe storms in South-East Queensland.
Wednesday, February 1, 4.50am: Heatwave conditions are expected in coming days. The Queensland Ambulance Service is advising people to “spare a second this weekend to check on those most susceptible to the heat, such as unwell or frail neighbours and relatives.”
Wednesday, February 1, 4.50am: A person was transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital after a vehicle and motorcycle crash on the Bruce Highway south bound at Coochin Creek at 4.25pm on Tuesday. The person was in a stable condition.
Tuesday, January 31, 2.30pm: The Sunshine Coast LifeFlight helicopter crew has flown a woman to hospital after she fell while horse riding in the Noosa region this morning.
It’s believed the woman, aged in her 50s, was leading another horse when the one she was riding reared up, causing her to fall and hit the ground.
The helicopter was called into action just before 8.30am. The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue critical care doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic assisted local paramedics in treating the woman for spinal injuries.
She was flown in a serious but stable condition to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
Tuesday, January 31, 11am: Paramedics were assessing five people following a two-vehicle and truck incident on Robert Street, Kunda Park, at 9.35am on Tuesday. Delays were expected. None of the the people required hospitalisation.
Tuesday, January 31, 5.30am: The results are in for the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beer people’s choice poll, with a Coast brewery once again placing extremely well in the prestigious competition.
This year, the 15th edition of the competition, there were 311 breweries in the poll and 2140 different beers attracting votes. This set new records, with more than 60,000 voters registering.
Sunshine Coast brewers Your Mates’ Larry Pale Ale came fifth.
Mountain Culture Beer Co’s Status Quo Pale Ale, from the Blue Mountains, was crowned champion of 2022. The silver and bronze places two previous champions, Mick Fanning’s Balter XPA, from the Gold Coast, and Canberra’s much-loved Bentspoke Crankshaft IPA. Stone and Wood’s Pacific Ale was fourth.
Monday, January 30, 1.30pm: Sunshine Coast residents have the chance to make aviation history tomorrow on the inaugural flight of Australia’s newest airline.
Australian aviation post-pandemic has finally hit a purple patch with wheels-up on the first commercial Bonza flight from the Sunshine Coast to the Whitsundays (Proserpine Airport) scheduled for 8am.
The one hour-and-40-minute flight will have an array of passengers filling the 186 seats available, including My Weekly Preview magazine editor Ingrid Nelson and Sunshine Coast News website journalist Shirley Sinclair among the media, as well as a host of our community champions and charity stalwarts as a thank you.
Now Bonza has released the final few remaining seats for people to book on the historic flight.

Monday, January 30, 9am: A man in his 70s has died on the beach at Buddina. A Queensland Ambulance spokesman confirmed the death but said it was unclear if the man had been in the water. The incident happened on Sunday afternoon.
“A report will be prepared for the coroner following the sudden death of a 71-year-old man in Buddina,” police said in a statement.
Sunshine Coast Surf Life Saving supervisor Shane Urban thanked the efforts of volunteer lifesavers at the end of their shift who responded to the situation.
“We also send our condolences to the family and friends affected by this incident,” he said.
Monday, January 30, 8am: One of the AFL’s glamour clubs, the Carlton Blues, will have an open training session at Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex on Wednesday. Fans will have the opportunity to watch their favourite players train from 10am and get photos and signatures at the end of the session. The Blues are on the Sunshine Coast for a one-week training camp, using the Queensland summer heat to toughen up for a big season.
Monday, January 30, 6am: Paramedics transported a patient in a stable condition to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital after they were reportedly bitten by a snake at a private address in Mountain Creek at 6.40pm on Sunday.
Sunday, January 29, 1.50pm: Six people have been taken to hospital, following a multi-vehicle crash, reported on Steve Irwin Way at Landsborough at 10.59am.
Paramedics attended the scene before One person was taken to Nambour Hospital and five to Sunshine Coast University Hospital. No serious injuries were reported at the scene.
Saturday, January 28, 6pm: A man in his 50s has been taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital with serious injuries, after a hang-gliding incident near Maleny-Montville Road at Balmoral Ridge at 12.35pm.
The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew transported the man to hospital. It’s believed he crashed to the ground from about 15m.
The aeromedical crew was called into action at about 1pm and the pilot was able to land near the scene.
The medical team joined paramedics in treating the man for multiple injuries. He was then flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, in a stable condition.
