Music fans are already applauding the newest festival on the Sunshine Coast events calendar.

The well-established Groovin the Moo (GTM) announced in January that it would be held on the Sunshine Coast for the first time.

Tickets went on sale on February 7 at noon. By February 12, organisers had reported that the Coast event was a sell-out, with about 25,000 tickets sold.

“We are so pleased that the festival has been so well received by the Sunny Coast community,” the spokesperson said.

“All shows have had a great response.

“Maitland, Canberra, Bendigo and Bunbury are on final-release tickets, too.”

Amy Shark is on the Groovin the Moo lineup for 2023.

Groovin the Moo will be held at Kawana Sports Western Precinct at Birtinya on Sunday, April 30, with a star-powered lineup featuring alt-j (UK), Australian Idol judge Amy Shark, Ball Park Music, Fatboy Slim (UK), Coast favourites The Chats, Eliza Rose (UK) and Ocean Alley.

The festival will also include triple j Unearthed and Fresh Produce artists, as well as community programs, to be announced.

A Sunshine Coast Council spokesperson said the larger Sunshine Coast Stadium was not available for dates requested by the promoter, due to prior bookings and alternate user group activity.

The Western Fields are the home of Kawana Soccer but will become Groovin the Moo’s Festival Central.

The Western Fields provided a logical solution to host this scale of event within the wider Kawana Sports Precinct, they said.

“The promoter is working with agencies like the Queensland Police Service (QPS), along with traffic and transport suppliers, to create a suitable event management plan and establish capacity limits,” the spokesperson said.

“As with all major events held in the region, the event management plan, which will include detailed traffic and transport options, will be submitted to QPS, Sunshine Coast Council and Department of Transport and Main Roads for approval.”

Transport and parking advice will be available closer to the festival date, although ticketholders are able to purchase paid event shuttle bus tickets on the website.

Buses will operate from Noosa via Coolum, Maroochydore via Mooloolaba and Kawana, Caloundra and surrounds, and Landsborough Station.

Ticketholders also are being encouraged to use public transport or the taxi and rideshare drop-off and pick-up zone on the day.

Meanwhile, the GTM team is looking for people across a range of roles to gain some festival experience. You can find out more and register your interest here.

Market stallholders can submit applications here and catering stallholders can apply here.

GTM has been running since 2005, with festival-goers wooed by line-ups featuring top international and national acts including the Black Keys, Silverchair, the Living End, Grinspoon, Hilltop Hoods, the Temper Trap, Lime Cordiale and the Wombats.

COVID impacts contributed to the absence of the festival in South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia since 2019.

Organisers replaced Townsville, where the Queensland festival previously had been held, with the Sunshine Coast this year.
