Construction is well underway for a new playground in one of the Sunshine Coast’s fastest-growing areas.

Whale Park is expected to open in April as the first park in Banya, a new suburb in the ever-growing Aura, by developer Stockland.

The park, on the corner of Lady Elliot Street and Great Keppel Way, will incorporate an ocean-themed design.

The park will feature a whale-themed playground, basketball half-court, a cycle loop and open green space.It will also be equipped with barbecue facilities, making it a go-to destination for a family get-together or birthday celebration.

There will also be an amenities block, including an accessible toilet.

Stockland project director Josh Sondergeld said the park would provide locals with another great space to relax or play.

“It’s great to be working on another park for the growing Aura community,” he said.“Our residents value a healthy lifestyle, and Whale Park is another recreational space in Aura where families and children can enjoy the outdoors and stay active.“We look forward to celebrating the opening of the park with the community in the coming months.”There are 16 parks at Aura, including 11 playgrounds, two sports parks, two dog parks and scooter park.

There are more than 70km of completed cycling and walking paths, which is set to extend to 200km on completion.Stockland Aura is home to more than 8800 residents.
