Friday, February 24, 8.30am: A Sunshine Coast police officer has officially retired after 42 years in the job.

Chief Inspector Anthony Graham, who started as a police cadet on January 22, 1981, was piped out in style from the North Coast Regional Office at Cotton Tree yesterday.

Chief Inspector Anthony Graham, who has retired after 42 years as a police officer.

He started at the Fortitude Valley Police Station and over the next 42 years served all over the state in locations including Windsor, Mount Isa, Burketown and Noosa Heads.

He has worked in general duties and the criminal investigation branch, and was officer-in-charge of Stafford Police Station among others.

Chief Inspector Graham received the Australian Police Medal in 2019, nationally recognising his distinguished service with the Queensland Police Service.

Thursday, February 23, 7.45am: Federal Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien is hitting the road over the next two weeks to hear directly from residents as part of the Ted’s Biggest Survey program.

Mr O’Brien will have mobile offices in Maroochydore, Mapleton, Peregian, Bli Bli and Brightwater between February 23 and March 5.

“To my mind, the most important part of my job is to listen and learn to ensure I’m delivering the targeted outcomes and infrastructure that our community needs,” he said.

The program starts at 8.30am today at the corner of Maroochy Boulevard and Sunrise Drive, Maroochydore.

Thursday, February 23, 7.45am: Two patients in stable conditions were transported to Nambour Hospital after a two-vehicle crash on David Low Way at Bli Bli at 8.13pm on Wednesday.

Wednesday, February 22, 8.50am: New low-cost airline Bonza is today making its inaugural flight between its home base on the Sunshine Coast and Townsville.

This direct route is a first between the two regions and is a major milestone with more than 80,000 seats between the two destinations.

It follows yesterday’s commencement of direct flights between the Sunshine Coast and Melbourne (Avalon).

Today’s new route is the airline’s fourth to launch and will be followed by its first ever flight between Townsville and Rockhampton on Friday.

Flights from its Melbourne base are expected to go on sale later this week, which will see travellers able to book flights between Townsville and Toowoomba Wellcamp.

Wednesday, February 22, 7.50am: A fire broke out in a house on Sippy Downs Drive in Sippy Downs at 12.12am.

The house appeared to be unoccupied at the time and no-one was injured or taken to hospital.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesperson said seven crews attended the scene, and the back of the building was “well involved in flames”.

Two firefighters with breathing apparatus entered the building and the fire was contained to the rear of the structure.

The fire was essentially extinguished by 12.55am, before a hotspot was attended to in the roof at about 3am.

The fire investigation unit arrived on the scene on Wednesday morning.

Wednesday, February 22, 7am: A man in his 50s was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, in a stable condition, after a single-vehicle crash into a ditch on Magellan Crescent and University Way at Sippy Downs at 10.17pm last night.

Tuesday, February 21, 11.35am: Three patients were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in stable conditions following a two-vehicle crash on the corner of Golf Links Road and Mooloolaba Road, Buderim, at 9.57am on Tuesday.

Tuesday, February 21, 11am: Three patients were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital after a two-vehicle and trailer crash on Commissioners Flat Road, Peachester, at 9.19am on Tuesday. One patient was in a serious but stable condition and two patients were in stable conditions.

Tuesday, February 21, 10.45am: The fire at Parrearra on Monday night started on a stove top.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said two crews attended the residence at Bahamas Circuit at about 6.30pm, when smoke from the roof was visible.

Residents had vacated the building by the time the crews arrived. Police and paramedics were also on scene.

The spokesperson said the fire started on a stovetop and the owner tried to extinguish it but it spread into the roof.

Crews managed to put the fire out and then ventilated the area and conducted checks. The extent of the damage was expected to be assessed on Tuesday.

Tuesday, February 21, 9.22am: Two people were taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, in stable conditions, after a two-truck crash on Sunshine Motorway north bound at Mountain Creek at 8am.

Tuesday, February 21, 9.22am: Paramedics attended the scene of a structure fire at Parrearra on Monday night at 6.33pm. No patients were injured and QAS remained on standby for QFES for the duration of the incident.

Monday, February 20, 9pm: The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating after a 45-year-old Fitzgibbon woman died following a three-vehicle traffic crash at Meridan Plains on Monday morning.

Initial investigations indicate that about 8.45am, a grey 2018 Kia Sorrento station wagon was travelling north along Kawana Way Link Road when a collision occurred with a stationary Toyota HiLux utility towing a box trailer, which was pulled up on the left shoulder of the road in the same direction of travel.

The collision forced the Kia into the path of a green 2013 Honda Jazz, which was travelling south along Kawana Way Link Road, seriously injuring the driver, who later died from her injuries in hospital.

The driver of the wagon, a 25-year-old Nirimba woman, sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital as a precaution. The two male occupants of the Toyota were not physically injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is appealing for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision of the crash, or the moments leading up to it, to come forward via Policelink or call 131 444, or via Crime Stoppers or call 1800 333 000.

Monday, February 20, 3.40pm: A patient was transported to Nambour Hospital in a stable condition after an incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Blaxland Road, Burnside, at 3pm on Monday.

Monday, February 20, 9am: The University of the Sunshine Coast is this week welcoming more than 4800 new students across its five campuses for orientation.

Students will be officially introduced to UniSC with a mix of on-campus and online sessions and activities designed to set them up for the best possible start to their studies.

“We have great ambitions for our students and do all we can to support them to succeed in their studies and make an impact in their future careers,” UniSC Vice-Chancellor and president Professor Helen Bartlett said.

Events will be held at the Sunshine Coast campus on Monday and Tuesday, Caboolture campus on Monday, Fraser Coast on Tuesday, followed by events at Gympie on Wednesday and Moreton Bay on Thursday. Students can also join an online orientation from Monday to Friday.
