From the mountains to the sea, residents are being urged to identify the special places they love around Noosa and help to tell the shire’s story.
Visitors and residents are invited to nominate the places they resonate with, including buildings and features they consider capture the character, identity and essence of Noosa Shire.
Mayor Clare Stewart said feedback from council’s Liveability and Customer Satisfaction Surveys showed the community placed high importance on heritage and character.
“We’d love to hear, in detail, what people value,” Cr Stewart said.
“Whether it’s a special place, a street, a unique building or structure, or even a view, residents and visitors can share their thoughts either online, through a survey, or in person at a series of community events.”
Noosa Council heritage co-ordinator Jane Harding said the aim of the Noosa Local Heritage Review consultations was to discover places across the shire that were important in telling Noosa’s story over time.
“Our community’s input will help us recognise, celebrate and conserve the special places and features we want to hold on to for future generations,” Ms Harding said.
“It’s no secret that Noosa is world-renowned for its natural beauty, environmental values and iconic natural features. But it also has a rich history.
“Our urban, built environment and heritage and character places play an important role in shaping our identity and this review will help us recognise, share and conserve those places.
“Whether it’s the places that played host to unique local stories, have historical significance, or are linked to those who have lived and worked in the region, or have a special and unique attachment to the local community, all input is welcome.
“Even more recent buildings can quickly gain a deep connection to place, so there is no age limit on what we consider our heritage.”
The feedback received during the consultation, which runs until the end of March, will help council to ensure Noosa’s heritage and character remain an integral part of its local identity and landscape.
