“One of those days that you don’t easily forget.”

That’s how staff members described the Sunshine Butterflies Triathlon, which was held at its six-hectare property Our Backyard in Cooroibah.

The event is based on the traditional triathlon format but with a twist. People with disability take part in three inclusive events: a run, wheelchair ride and water splash relay.

“We are so proud to have been running this event for four years in a row,” Sunshine Butterflies CEO and founder Leanne Walsh said.

“We are just blown away by the support we have received this year from our partners, the local community, schools and of course all Sunshine Butterflies members and staff.”

After the impact of COVID on local sporting events in 2020, Sunshine Butterflies decided to put together its own triathlon for members with disability.

Sunshine Butterflies members, staff, partners, schools and volunteers.

The event has now grown to become a huge part of Sunshine Butterflies and the wider Noosa community.

“Watching our members run, ride and swim, and seeing the looks of pride on their faces, reminds us of the important work we do,” marketing and events co-ordinator Ali Kelly McCudden said.

Sunshine Butterflies was thrilled to have Nugget from 91.1 Hot FM as a special guest and MC for the day.

Nugget from 91.1 Hot FM and ‘Pittsy’.

“We are so grateful to the June Canavan Foundation for making this day possible once again,” Ms Walsh said. “We couldn’t do this without them.”
