Plans for a $14.6 million multi-purpose hall at a 140-year-old school have been announced, as transformations at its campus continue.
The state-of-the-art hall at Yandina State School is in addition to a project worth almost $10 million that’s already underway to upgrade classrooms.
Principal Michael Cookman said the new facility would support the growing school community.
“Yandina State School is excited for our new multi-purpose hall, which will support our growing school community to deliver a wide range of both sporting and cultural activities for students,” he said.
“The multi-purpose hall will be a much-needed asset that will not only benefit our school but also the wider Yandina community.”
Education Minister Grace Grace and Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton were on hand to make the announcement.
“The announcement of a new $14.6 million new multi-purpose hall for Yandina SS in the state budget is welcomed by both the school and the wider community,” Mr Skelton said.
“Adding to the almost $10 million investment in additional classrooms at the school, Yandina’s campus will be transformed over the coming years.”
It comes as more than 3000 Sunshine Coast families are set to receive free kindy in 2024 thanks to a historic budget announcement from the state government.
“The Palaszczuk Government will always invest in education: it’s in our DNA,” Ms Grace said.
“We are making kindy free for every family in Queensland, we’re expanding school breakfast clubs, and we are delivering record infrastructure investment for schools right across the Sunshine Coast.”
A $645 million budget boost will make kindy free for every Queensland family and is set to save households up to $4600 a year.
The policy also includes additional funding for staff attraction and retention, extra investment for kindy kids with disability, and an expansion of the successful Kindy Uplift program.
The state budget includes $85 million for schools across the Sunshine Coast. Other new projects include refurbishing the resource centre at Beerwah State School, and a new playground at Montville State School. Work will also continue on existing projects including the halls at Noosa District State High’s Pomona campus, Buderim Mountain State School and Burnside State High, and the administration upgrades at Glenview and North Arm state schools.
