After a bumper school holiday period, the crowds and traffic are starting to thin on the Sunshine Coast for those wanting to wet a line.

After windy onshore conditions last week, the rains are back this week. Saturday looks like the pick of the day offshore, before the new moon next Tuesday.

According to the solunar calendar, fishing efficiency is at its peak next Monday and Tuesday.

Offshore

The Barwon Banks have been fishing well, with fishos and charters reporting good-size Snapper, Pearl Perch, Amberjack, Tuskfish and Coronation Trout. There’s also been some good Snapper catches in the shipping channel and at the Gneerings, and Coral Trout and Longtail Tuna at North Reef.

Don’t forget the Snapper and Pearl Perch season closure begins on July 15 and ends on August 15. Find more information here.

Estuary

Maroochy River

The Cod Hole has been fishing well, with reports of decent-size Diamond and Golden Trevally and Cod being caught in the past week. If you’re chasing Diamonds or GTs, try a Major Craft Jigpara Micro Jig on the start of the run-out tide.

A few juvenile Tailor were spotted making their way up the river system into Eudlo Creek, and there’s plenty of Bream in the river and canals. Bigger winter Bream are starting to move in as well.

Flathead are in good numbers, with many smaller males spotted recently, which means the larger females should start appearing soon. The Jigpara Micro Jig will also work well on these species, or peeled prawns is your best bait option.

Eudlo Creek has also been great for Flathead, with good catches on the flats.

There’s been plenty of Jewfish caught from the Cod Hole right up to Dunethin Rock. Try a three-inch soft plastic paddle tail or prawn in the deeper sections of the river.

Noosa River

The Noosa River continues to fish well, with Bream, Flathead and Trevally reported over the last week at the mouth and along Tewantin.

Whiting have also been caught at the mouth, and Garfish are also starting to appear.

Beach

For those looking to fish our beautiful beaches, there’s been Tailor and Bream caught off Moolooaba and Whiting and Tailor off Caloundra.

Tight lines,
