A two-storey home constructed to work with a challenging landscape has scooped one of the major prizes at the Sunshine Coast Master Builders 2023 Housing and Construction Awards.
The ‘Mons’ project in Buderim earned JT Homes the sought-after BUSSQ Building Super President’s Award.
Surrounded by natural bushland, it has polished spotted gum floors throughout, an ambient stone feature fireplace and an outdoor undercover entertainment area.
The simple yet effective kitchen works has custom cabinetry for the fridge and spice racks, and the laundry includes a clothes chute from upstairs.
“The house fits well into the surrounding landscape, with a good mix of materials which are pleasing to the eye,” the judges said.
“This project shows an attention to detail and a high-quality finish.
“To achieve this workmanship and quality by a young builder is a credit to his dedication and training in a competitive building industry.”
The best of the best in the building and construction industry were celebrated at the awards, held at The Events Centre, Caloundra, on Friday, August 18.
From leisure facilities and retail fitouts to seaside mansions and iconic apartments, this year’s awards showcased superb craftsmanship and innovation.
Master Builders Sunshine Coast regional manager Nicola Scott congratulated all the winners across the 47 categories.
“Our members’ determination, talent and innovation are a true reflection of this year’s awards theme, Shining Bright,” she said.

“From community projects and huge educational facilities to modern apartments and beachside mansions, the Sunshine Coast building community came together to produce stellar projects.
“It doesn’t matter whether they’ve taken an award home this year or not, each of our 2023 entrants is a part of the Master Builders family and helps cement why we’re so widely trusted and respected.”
Other big winners on the night included McNab, which collected the Bathersby Legal Project of the Year and Commercial/Industrial Building over $50 million for the Sunshine Coast City Hall, and Nick Hayes Constructions, which scored the Xact Accounting House of the Year with the spectacular beachfront mansion Wilson Beach House in Dicky Beach.
“A building design ahead of its time with futuristic curves and finishes,” is what the judges said of the City Hall.
“The attention to detail is evident throughout this project, with an impressive quality finish.”
“The building incorporates a five-star green rating and the amenities and functionality within this facility have considered all the stakeholders.”
Designed by award-winning Cottee Parker Architects with sustainability at its core, the City Hall has 10 storeys and includes retail, civic and commercial spaces.
The theatre-style council chambers, which took more than four months to construct, are at the heart of the project, with the bespoke feature tiered ceiling and timber wall cladding in natural blackbutt expertly installed by hand.
Its unique design is inspired by the forms and colours of one of the Sunshine Coast’s most defining landmarks, the Glass House Mountains.
The other big winner of the night was Tomkins Commercial and Industrial Builders, which walked away with four awards: Health Facilities up to $20 million and Retail Facilities over $5 million for Forest Glen Village Centre, and Excellence in Energy Efficiency and Environmental Management, and Residential Building (high-rise over three storeys) over $20 million trophies for Seanna Residences in Bokarina Beach.
Callum Zeuschner from Buildmast Construction took the Apprentice of the Year title and Linn Batey from Nyblad Construction claimed the Women in Building Award.
The Rising Star title went to Todd Stolberg from Alternative Construction Projects.
