A Sunshine Coast builder is set to make a significant contribution to the Queensland housing crisis as it expands into regional and remote communities.
About to complete its 2000th home and recently expanding its commercial facility, the modular home company has also unveiled a new seven-star energy efficient display home.
Operating on the Sunshine Coast for 52 years, Oly Homes is now working with councils across the state to supply quick turnaround, affordable and accessible accommodation solutions.
Managing Director and Owner, Dale Funston said the Chevallum commercial site had doubled its output to 100 homes during the past 12 months.
He said the family-owned company was looking to expand further to cope with demand from councils and community housing providers accessing the $2 billion Queensland Government Housing Investment Fund.
“We’ve got our first three homes going to the Barcoo Shire Council this month and have been busy establishing relationships with other councils across the state to provide timely and accessible accommodation solutions for their communities,” Mr Funston said.
“The beauty of our modular systems is that they arrive quickly and are one hundred percent ready to live in, circumventing the problems many regional and remote communities face in sourcing tradespeople and cost-effective building materials.”
The company also recently supplied six new homes to Longreach and provided staff accommodation at remote Aurukun and Winton.
Locally, Oly Homes is building eight accessible units for the Alexandra Park Conference Centre.
It also hopes to develop pathways with Sunshine Coast Council to provide affordable living outcomes as outlined in the Housing and Homelessness Action Plan 2023.
Mr Funston said the team would be attending the Local Government Association of Queensland conference in October to showcase how project-managed modular solutions could address the serious gaps in social and affordable housing.
On Tuesday, Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson officially opened Oly Homes’ expansion and unveiled the new energy efficient display home at the company’s Yandina headquarters.
“I’m pleased to see Oly Homes remain committed to our region and growing its business locally,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“Oly Homes’ expansion on the Sunshine Coast over the next three years is a win for our region with an anticipated economic impact of $17.81 million and 49 new jobs.
“It’s fantastic to see another local company go from strength to strength with demand for their modular homes resulting in increased local investment, procurement and new jobs.”
