Up to 30 cabins could be relocated from a coastal holiday park to a new home as part of a proposed tourist development.
An application has been lodged for a site at Beerwah, to develop a campground that would include accommodation and a food kiosk open to the general public.
The tourist park is earmarked for 1286 Steve Irwin Way, with Covey Associates submitting the application to Sunshine Coast Council on behalf of its client, Beerwah Pines.
It is understood that Beerwah Pines is also the owner of Alex Beach Cabins and Tourist Park at Alexandra Headland.
The proposed development seeks to establish a tourist park comprising 11 one-bedroom and 18 two-bedroom cabins, camping sites and amenities including barbecues and recreational facilities, plus open space, pool and playground areas.
The 17.63-hectare site is currently used for operational works for filling waterbodies and has separate council approval for eight cabins, a manager’s residence and an arts and craft shop on the land.
“All of the proposed cabins will be sourced from the existing Alex Beach Cabins and Tourist Park site, which is owned and operated by the applicant,” the report states.
“Each cabin will comprise an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, bathroom, laundry and a mix of one or two bedrooms in a layout with a maximum of approximately 66sqm gross floor area.
“A new building at the entrance of the tourist park is proposed to be built providing a reception and check-in location, and a kiosk for tourist park residents to be able to purchase minor convenience items.
“A food and drink outlet offering made-to-order food and drink will cater mainly for tourist park visitors.
“It is proposed the food and drink outlet will also be accessible by the general public as an opportunistic stop for tourists and travellers in the region.”
The report outlines that the development would be delivered in four stages, with scope for future development through a 9861sqm expansion of the park.
“The proposed future development will be consistent with the remaining tourist park development, and developed providing a similar composition of cabins and camping areas as that proposed for stages A to D.
“A total expansion of a maximum of 31 sites (11 cabins and 20 campsites) are proposed for the future expansion area.”
The tourist park would be accessed via a slip lane and an existing driveway into the property from Steve Irwin Way.
Currently there are no development applications lodged with council for the Alex Beach Cabins and Tourist Park site where the cabins will be removed from.
