Sunshine Coast and Noosa councils will ensure a range of services are maintained across the Christmas period, from bin collections to keeping beachgoers safe.

While some services will have changes to operating hours, others will remain open to support the community right through the summer break.

Waste collection

Roadside waste and recycling collections will continue as normal, including on public holidays, across the Sunshine Coast and Noosa regions.

All council resource recovery facilities will close on Christmas Day, then continue to trade as normal on all other days.

Customer service

Sunshine Coast Council’s after-hours emergency call centre will operate 24 hours a day via  5475 7272.

The customer service email and SMS services will close from 5pm on Friday, December 22, and re-open at 8.30am on Wednesday, December 27.

After-hours emails sent to mail@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au and customerservice@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au will be monitored for urgent issues only.

Non-urgent matters can be logged any time via council’s online portal MyCouncil.

The council service counter and reception desk at Caloundra will close from 4.30pm on Friday, December 22, and reopen at 8.30am on Wednesday, December 27.

Council service counters and reception desks at City Hall in Maroochydore and Nambour will close at 4.30pm on Friday, December 22, and reopen at 8.30am on Tuesday, January 2.

Noosa Council’s walk-in customer service centre at Tewantin will close from 2.30pm on Friday, December 22, and reopen on January 2.

The customer service team will be available via phone on Friday, December 22 (8.30am to 2.30pm); Wednesday, December 27 (8.30am to 5pm); Thursday, December 28 (8.30am to 5pm); and Friday, December 29 (8.30am to 2.30pm). Phone 5329 6500.

After-hours emergencies can be directed to 5329 6500, otherwise use the free Snap Send Solve app to alert Noosa Council of non-urgent issues in the community such as potholes, illegal dumping and overflowing bins.

Development services

The development information counter at Sunshine Coast City Hall will close from 4.30pm on Friday, December 22, and reopen at 8.30am on Tuesday, January 2. Appointments to meet with development services in the new year can be booked online.

Beach patrol and aquatic centres

Professional lifeguards and volunteer surf lifesavers will patrol major beach locations daily, with extended hours through the Christmas period.

Remember to only swim during patrolled hours and in between the red and yellow flags. Check local patrol times here and search for your favourite beach.

All council-run aquatic centres across both regions will close on Christmas Day, with some reduced services during the Christmas/new year period. Residents are encouraged to check their local pool’s website or social media page for opening hours.

Libraries

Sunshine Coast Libraries will close on public holidays but operate on all other days during the holiday season. The Sunshine Coast Mobile Library service will close from Monday, December 18, and resume on Tuesday, January 2.

Noosaville and Cooroy Libraries will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. The Mobile Library will be off the road from Wednesday, December 20, with services resuming on Thursday, January 4.

Galleries and other council-run venues

Bankfoot House, Landsborough Museum, the Caloundra Regional Gallery and Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

The Maroochy Bushland Botanic Garden at Tanawha and Noosa Botanic Gardens at Lake Macdonald will remain open daily.

Venue 114 and community spaces will close from 5pm on Friday, December 22, and reopen on Wednesday, January 4.

The Noosa Leisure Centre closes at midday on Wednesday, December 20, and reopens on Tuesday, January 2.

The J is closed from midday on Friday, December 22, reopening at 9am on Tuesday, January 2.

Noosa Regional Gallery will close at 3pm on Saturday, December 23, and reopen on Tuesday, January 2.

Noosa Seniors

Operations and services of Noosa Seniors will be closed from Christmas Day. In-home services will resume as normal from Tuesday, January 2. Social groups will resume as normal from Monday, January 8.

Animal pound

The Sippy Creek Animal Pound will close at 2pm on Friday, December 22. It will open on Saturday, December 23, from 9am to middday. It will then close for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, reopening at 8.15am on Wednesday, December 27. The pound will be closed on New Year’s Day.

Disasters and emergencies

Sunshine Coast Council will keep residents up to date with alerts and helpful information via Disaster Hub, while Noosa Council information can be found on its Disaster Dashboard.

Both sites have important, up-to-date information including weather warnings, road closures, evacuation centres, airport updates, traffic cameras and flood mapping, as well as news updates and social media posts, plus links to key emergency services.
