The restaurateur behind a well-established waterfront eatery has expanded his business offerings by opening a new ice creamery with his partner.

David Deambrogio and his son Ashley have run Chill Cafe 89 in Golden Beach since 2015 and now David and his partner Paulette Mcpherson have opened Chill Gelato Bar in the same suburb.

The new shop offers 24 flavours of locally made gelato and sorbet from the award-winning Maleny Food Co, as well as milkshakes, juices and smoothies.

Mr Deambrogio and Ms Mcpherson saw an opportunity in Golden Beach to open their own ice cream shop – a first for the seaside town.

“The grand opening of the shop on Boxing Day was spectacular, with lots of excited kiddies and adults, and was also well received by the locals and tourists,” he said.

Mr Deambrogio said setting up the gelato shop in Landsborough Parade, not far from the original Chill Cafe 89 on the Esplanade, was a team effort.

“We wanted to be open on Boxing Day so with a lot of sleepless nights and planning we got it done in a month and a half,” he said.

Chill Gelato Bar has 24 flavours on offer.

“We had the help of Travis from He Is Handy with the fitout, along with Brett from Coastal Air Solutions, Paul from J&P Electrical and Nelly and Clayton from EG Design, who worked with Paulette in the design of the logo, LED and wraps.

“Our close friends also played a big part in helping the new shop come together.”

As for the best flavours, Mr Deambrogio and Ms Mcpherson recommend salted caramel but their best-seller is mango and macadamia.

“We love that Maleny Food Co is local and we personally think their gelato and sorbet is top notch,” he said.

Chill Gelato Bar is at shop 5/44 Landsborough Parade, Golden Beach.
