The huge parcel of vacant land may look lonely and unsightly now, as about 45,000 motorists a day whiz past.

But one of the Sunshine Coast’s prime commercial properties has just gone under contract and may soon boast a fresh new face.

Town sales manager Jamie Vibert said the sale of the 3242sqm development site on the former Pacific Ford car yard in Currimundi was expected to be finalised in late January.

While coy about the contract price, Mr Vibert said the real estate agency was guiding prospective buyers “in the $4 millions”.

“It’s got 109m of frontage, which is pretty much the biggest site with frontage you can get on the Sunshine Coast, on one of the busiest streets on the Sunshine Coast,” he said.

The 707-715 Nicklin Way address, opposite the eastern end of Erang Street, was largely left idle for years, after Pacific Ford moved its southern Sunshine Coast operations to Caloundra Road, Caloundra.

COVID-19 testing was set up on part of the block during the recent pandemic.

About 45,000 vehicles a day pass the site.

The prime development site in the mass transit corridor opens up a world of possibilities for its future, subject to council approval, including the potential to create a thriving community hub – located right in the middle of a high-growth area in the region, minutes from the beach, local shops and other amenities.

Others thought so, too.

“From realestate.com, I’m pretty sure it was one of the most viewed commercial sites in Queensland,” Mr Vibert said.

He said that while developers “hold their cards close to chest”, he thought Sunshine Coast Council would want to see something built there that was befitting of the land’s size and location.
