A 53-year-old man has died after a fist fight with his neighbour on the Sunshine Coast.
A 55-year-old man has been arrested, with police claiming he exchanged punches with the 53-year-old at a unit complex at Parrearra on Thursday.
“They were known to each other – they lived in neighbouring units,” Detective Acting Inspector Craig Mansfield told reporters.
“There seems to be some animosity between the two males.”
Police said the 53-year-old was found deceased by paramedics at the St Vincent de Paul community housing location about 2.30pm on Thursday, and was initially reported as a sudden death.
Police did not become involved until hours later when it was established there had been an assault.
“What we have established at this point in time is that two males have had a fist fight and one of those males has died shortly thereafter that fight,” Det Mansfield said.
“It (fight) happened in a number of locations.
“It sort of transitioned through the hallway in the unit complex and out into an open area.”
He said the 55-year-old man was in custody and assisting police.
“We are just working through the process … to see if we can secure enough evidence to put charges on this male we have arrested,” Det Mansfield said.
He said police were set to secure CCTV unit footage and were trying to locate witnesses.
