A major bank is set to pull out of another Sunshine Coast suburb, making it the bank’s fourth branch to close across the region in as many years.
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has confirmed it will close its Buderim branch at the end of the month.
Located on Burnett Street, the branch offers face-to-face services for customers from Buderim and its surrounds.
The closure comes after the big four bank closed its Tewantin and Beerwah branches in 2022 and its Cooroy branch in 2019.
CBA is also set to close its branch at Noosa Junction and relocate to the Noosa Civic precinct in July.
In a statement to Sunshine Coast News, CBA Sunshine Coast area manager Rebecca Morris said the branch would close on Friday, May 31.
Across the country several CBA branches have also closed this year, reportedly due to declines in customer demand at the branches.
Ms Morris said two-thirds of customers at Buderim were already using services at other branches on the Coast.
“Our branches in Maroochydore, Kawana Waters, Caloundra and Nambour are popular banking centres for local communities, serving almost two-thirds of customers who currently use our Buderim branch,” she said.
“These are larger branches, with more staff at each location, including home lending specialists, business bankers and access to convenient self-service technology.
“While our Buderim branch will soon close, we remain committed to maintaining the largest branch network in the country and are investing more than $1.5 million in our Sunshine Coast presence.”
Ms Morris confirmed no jobs would be lost as part of the branch closure and that customers would have access to other banking options nearby.
“We warmly welcome our Buderim customers to our nearby branches,” she said.
Bank@Post is also available at the Buderim Post Shop, about 350m from the Buderim branch.
According to CBA, 98 per cent of the cash transactions that customers complete in branches can be completed via Bank@Post.
