A new community facility is closer to becoming a reality, after a parcel of land was set aside to build a Police Citizens Youth Club.
Sunshine Coast Council has endorsed a proposal to free up 6500sqm of land for the facility in the future Aura town centre at Caloundra South.
Stockland, the developer of Aura, will contribute the site to the council under the infrastructure agreement for the masterplanned community.
Council will lease the land to the PCYC to enable the organisation to construct and operate the new facility, although the final leasing terms are still to be finalised.
Late last year, PCYC Queensland began discussions with the council to find a suitable location that was well serviced by public transport and close to a police station.

Councillor Jenny Broderick said PCYC Queensland was a highly regarded charity, providing a range of valuable youth and community programs and services.
“We are excited to be able to support the establishment of this new centre,” Cr Broderick said.
“PCYC facilities across the state are renowned for providing a safe space for youth and a place to cater for a range of community activities, events and sports.
“This will be so important for a newly established residential area, driving cohesion and connection.”
The state government has announced $15 million of funding to support the PCYC’s construction.
It will be just the second PCYC in the region, with the other at Nambour.
PCYC Queensland CEO Phil Schultz told Sunshine Coast News in May that the timing for opening was subject to the finalisation of funding and land agreements as well as building approvals.
“PCYC activities and programs are popular with the community, and it’s anticipated that thousands of members of the local community will use the facility,” Mr Schultz said.
It is planned that the PCYC will include a dedicated youth space; multipurpose spaces for sport, recreation and community activities; a purpose-built gymnastics facility; a 24/7 community gym; an outdoor basketball court, dependent on the site; and a sealed car park with dedicated parking spaces.
