Work has started on a $2 million refurbishment of rooms within a landmark resort that has hosted aristocrats and rock legends.

A Hamptons-style makeover is underway for 24 holiday apartments and hotel rooms at Ramada Marcoola Beach, which are part of Club Wyndham South Pacific.

The apartments are undergoing a transformation designed to elevate the guest experience with a classic coastal theme, featuring a colour palate of blue and white with pops of orange and the use of natural materials inspired by the resort’s beachfront position.

The apartments will be updated with vinyl timber flooring in common spaces and dark blue carpet in bedrooms, light blue walls, new balcony settings and an emphasis on timber furniture.

Deluxe apartments will feature new artwork inspired by local coastal habitats, oversized armchairs and walk-in showers.

The overall look is intended to capture the feeling of a laidback beachfront summer, where guests can throw open their expansive windows and enjoy the warm sea breezes through their apartment.

The original tower at Ramada Marcoola Beach – known as Surfair – was completed in the 1960s and this project is designed to celebrate contemporary design while paying homage to the prominence of the property in its early days.

In the ’60s and ’70s, chartered flights of VIPs landed at the Maroochydore airport next door and stayed for the weekend.

The highest-profile event was a 1971 party, where the Duke of Bedford and Lady Fairfax were welcomed with a seafood buffet, cocktails and three detectives to keep an eye on guest jewellery.

In the 1980s, the hotel also played host to huge music acts, including Cold Chisel, Skyhooks, Midnight Oil, Hunters and Collectors, Hoodoo Gurus, Mental as Anything, The Little River Band, Mondo Rock, The Angels and Jimmy and the Boys.

Ramada Marcoola Beach (formerly Surfair) has been a mainstay on the beach for decades.

Travel + Leisure Co senior vice-president Warren Cullum said the rooms would be a hit with guests.

“We are thrilled to announce a refurbishment for our club apartments that both honours the property’s place in Sunshine Coast history while providing an innovative new experience for our members and guests,” he said.

“Club Wyndham South Pacific commits to updating its apartments under a multi-year cycle and members are excited about seeing their club apartments refreshed at this popular location.

“In line with our sustainability commitments, we are pleased to offer our quality used furniture to worthwhile local cause, Lifeline Maroochydore.”

Ramada Marcoola Beach is just metres from the beach.

Positioned right on Marcoola Beach, the resort features a 60m outdoor lagoon pool, children’s wading pool, day spa, gym, onsite restaurant and bar and six function and events rooms.

Across the Club Wyndham South Pacific portfolio, members have access to hundreds of free activities and complimentary hire of sporting equipment. At Ramada Marcoola Beach, club members can hire push bikes, e-bikes, surfboards and boogie boards at no cost.

Club Wyndham South Pacific features 54 resorts across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Hawaii and Europe.

Club Wyndham South Pacific is a leading vacation club developed by Travel + Leisure Co with close to 60,000 members.
