A 12-year-old girl has suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car this morning.

The Sunshine Coast Forensic Crash Unit is investigating after the incident in Maroochydore about 7.55am.

Police were called to Main Road, near the Hilltop Crescent intersection, to reports the girl had been hit by a car.

Initial investigations indicated the girl was riding an e-scooter on the footpath when a Kia 4 pulled out of a driveway onto Main Road and collided with the girl.

The girl, from Alexandra Headland, was transported to hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the car, a 21-year-old Maroochydore woman, is assisting police with inquiries.

Investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information, including dashcam footage, is urged to contact police.
