Work is due to begin late this month on resurfacing a section of one of the Coast’s busiest roads, to provide smoother and safer driving conditions for motorists.

The work on the 2.6km section of Caloundra Road between the Bruce Highway at Meridan Plains and the Kawana Way Link Road and Bells Creek Road roundabout is expected to take about four weeks.

Temporary road closures will be in place from 6pm to 5am on certain sections of Caloundra Road, with detours via local roads.

Reduced speed limits, traffic controllers and flashing message signs will be in place during the work, and motorists have been warned to expect delays and increased travel times.

Final line-marking is scheduled to finish in November, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Department of Transport and Main Roads North Coast region acting deputy director Nick Broadley said $3.8 million would be spent to resurface the section of road.

“Resurfacing and rehabilitation projects continue to play a key role in maintaining our road network to the highest possible standard to cater for future growth,” Mr Broadley said.

“The new road surface will be welcomed by almost 40,000 motorists who travel this section of the road each day.

“This stretch of Caloundra Road plays a crucial role as an arterial route linking key destinations, from the newly developed Aura, the coastal suburbs in Caloundra and the nearby industrial area, to the M1 and Brisbane.

The project is the third awarded to Fulton Hogan under the five-year, $138 million Road Asset Management Contract for roads in the North Coast region, which comprises the Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Somerset local government areas.
