A public relations and marketing firm has achieved 20 years of business success.

Fresh PR and Marketing has overcome significant challenges and adapted to a changing media landscape since its doors were opened at Marcoola two decades ago.

Founder and director Maya Gurry said she was grateful for the support the business had received from the Sunshine Coast community and beyond.

“It’s really humbling to see how many people have backed us on this journey since Fresh first launched in 2004,” she said.

“We have been fortunate enough to work with such remarkable clients and contributing to, and sharing in their successes has been incredibly fulfilling.

“Anyone in small business knows it requires lots of hard work and dedication. Fortunately, we still really love what we do after all these years, and working with inspirational clients who trust us with their story is very rewarding.

“Of course, there have been challenges, most notably a GFC and pandemic, but there have also been too many incredible connections, experiences and laughs along the way to mention.

“What I could never have known when I started Fresh in 2004 was how the communications space would change over the next two decades.

“When we started, there was no social media other than MySpace, the iPhone was still three years away and the comms channels were far less crowded, slower in pace and more predictable.

“The reason I believe Fresh is still flying high today is that we were flexible and embraced each new storytelling tool as it came along.

“At the end of the day a great story is still a great story: the channels have just evolved.”

Recent research shows that more than 15 per cent of Australian businesses failed in the 12 months until August – the worst failure rate since the global financial crisis in 2008 – while 60 per cent of all new Australian businesses fail within their first three years of operation.

Despite these statistics, the agency’s continued success saw Fresh director and partner Helen Perry join Fresh PR and Marketing in 2011 and, shortly after, the duo expanded again to take over AJ Consulting from Amber James, who took a sabbatical before joining the Fresh team from 2014 to 2022.

Ms Perry said that although the business is based in Marcoola, Fresh PR and Marketing’s reputation for a forward-thinking and creative approach had seen the business thrive, securing significant contracts across a diverse client base around Australia.

“Our team of six communications professionals and those Fresh team members who came before have been instrumental in driving our success and we are also really fortunate for the wonderful, lasting relationships we have fostered with our local media over the past two decades,” she said.

“We are lucky to have a very healthy media landscape on the Coast thanks to an impressive cohort of journos who are committed to sharing local stories with our community.

“Our clients tell us they love our combination of city competence and strong regional experience and our ability to think outside the square in order to achieve the best outcomes.

“Our focus has never been about building an empire.

“We’ve deliberately kept our team agile and personal so we can work closely with our fabulous clients and tackle the big challenges together to achieve success.”

Fresh PR & Marketing is a full service agency based in the Town of Seaside, Marcoola with services including PR, marketing, event management, crisis management, digital and community engagement.
