A Sunshine Coast school has a new $20 million building with modern facilities, while another has a $10 million pledge for upgrades.
Yandina State School has unveiled a new two-storey multi-use building, and Woombye State School could get improvements to its hall and more.
The new $19.64 million building at Yandina includes six additional classrooms and a dedicated space for music, which was previously taught outside.
A more accessible administration area will make life easier and more inclusive for all students, teachers, staff and visitors.
The new facility also includes student and staff amenities, an art and kitchen area, teacher breakout room, conference and specialist rooms and a lift, along with a new court for basketball, netball and tennis and new sports and ground sheds.
A new IT network, fibre optic connections to all buildings, a new staff car park and a new sewer system were also included in the project.
Yandina State School principal Michael Cookman welcomed the new facilities.
“They will support our commitment to providing a learning environment that not only caters for a child’s academic growth but also enables rich cultural and sporting opportunities,” he said.
Staff and students began moving into the new building before the recent school holidays. A new multi-purpose hall is still under construction.
Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton could see how the new facilities would benefit staff and students.
“The school has a reputation for making a positive difference to the students’ academic learning, physical and emotional wellbeing and social emotional growth,” he said.
“It is understandable why the school has experienced so much growth in recent years and was therefore in so much need of these exciting, state-of-the-art facilities.”
Meanwhile, Mr Skelton also announced that Woombye State School would receive $10.2 million in upgrades if Labor is re-elected.
The funding would cover a major $8.5 million upgrade to the school hall and music rooms, alongside building a new prep and senior playground and resurfacing the sports court.
“No matter where you live, all our kids deserve access to high quality learning opportunities which allow them to succeed and unlock their potential,” he said.
Mr Skelton said the state government’s continued commitment to local schools in the electorate include: a new performing arts centre at Burnside State School: a new school hall, classrooms, admin building and carparks at Yandina State School: a new school hall at Noosa District State High School: two new tuckshops and six new playgrounds; and free breakfast programs at five schools.
