A Sunshine Coast MP who has held his seat since 2016 has been unanimously re-endorsed by the LNP as its candidate for the upcoming federal election.
Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace said he was honoured to be re-endorsed and was committed to delivering on his mission “to make Fisher the place of choice for education, employment and retirement”.
“I’m honoured that the grassroots members of the LNP have once again put their faith in me,” Mr Wallace said.
“In 2016 I was elected as the Member for Fisher with a pledge that I would do what I’ve done as a builder, barrister and small business owner – that is, work hard, take nothing for granted and stand up to the big end of town.
“For eight years, I’ve fought to build better roads and rail, boost mental health services (and) back small businesses and local manufacturers, to protect Australians and secure our future. I’ve delivered over $7 billion to that end.
“I’ve stood up for Australians and their interests on the world stage. I’ve worked across the political aisle to shift the conversation on mental health and eating disorders. And I’ve worked hard to ensure that young Australians can realise the Australian dream of home ownership.
“But I’m not done fighting for Fisher – there’s plenty of work still to do.
“We need long-term cost-of-living relief for families and their businesses. We need more homes, better services and infrastructure, and more support for our hard-working community groups.
“At the national level, I’m still fighting for a National Security Strategy, for a Digger Bill to transform veterans’ education, and comprehensive social media reform to hold big tech to account and keep kids safe online.”
Mr Wallace also served as the 31st Speaker of the House of Representatives from November 2021 to April 2022.
The Fisher electorate covers much of the southern part of the Sunshine Coast, from Sippy Downs and Mooloolaba south to Glass House Mountains and west to Maleny.
The next federal election must be held by May 2025.
