An application has been lodged with the Sunshine Coast Council for a function and accommodation venue in the hinterland.
Through town planning firm Adapt, Hayden Marshall and Kate Dyce have sought approval for a facility, nature-based tourism and short-term accommodation on a 20ha property on Cedar Creek Road, Gheerulla.
A town planning report says the applicants propose to create Cedar Banks, a venue for weddings and events offering guest accommodation in four self-contained one and two-bedroom cabins and on six camp sites.
The report says the venue, which is in a rural area, will host a maximum of 100 guests.
“The proposal will support the highly regarded Sunshine Coast wedding venue market in a pristine natural setting, where farm and rainforest collide,” the report says.
“The proposed development will make a positive contribution to the local economy, supporting caterers, party hire and event staff.
“Cedar Banks has partner accommodation providers in Noosa, Eumundi and Kenilworth. Those event guests not staying overnight are encouraged to utilise shuttle bus service to stay locality within the region.”
The report says the activities will be contained within an existing cleared area without the need to clear any vegetation.
“Cedar Banks is of a scale respecting the surrounding locality, with the proposed number of cabins and campsites being less than what is allowed as a code assessable application,” it says.
“The proposed development footprint is within an within an existing cleared area. The design has respected the site’s natural attributes, with the opportunity to further enhance the site with additional screen plantings.”
The report says the function area will initially be under a marquee with a view to a permanent, open but roofed structure with bar, storage and cold room being built in the future.
It is proposed that portaloos be used to service the function area while soil tests are carried out to with regard to permanent facilities and that campers bring their own camp toilets.
An acoustic report says sound systems will not be in use between 10pm and 10am, and will be kept under 80dB.
The report says a calendar of events will be circulated to nearby residents every six months and direct contact details provided for any complaints.
The town planning report says the application has been submitted after the council issued a compliance notice in November following a trial for family, friends, marketing and photography purposes.
A September 2023 post on the Cedar Banks Facebook page eludes to an upcoming launch and HipCamp reviews date back to at least May this year.
