Work is underway on a new highway service station that is set to “redefine the fuel and convenience retail experience” on the Sunshine Coast.
The ground has been broken for the first stage of the $24 million Glass House Mountains precinct, which will essentially replace one of the iconic stopovers formerly known as Moby Vic’s.
It’s expected to offer greater choice and convenience to about 160,000 commuters who travel along the northbound stretch of highway every day.
Services will include a new Shell service station, On The Run (OTR) convenience retail offerings, expanded EV facilities and quick-service restaurants including Hungry Jack’s, McDonald’s and Guzman y Gomez.
Property owner Dexus Convenience Retail REIT and Queensland-based builder Deluca Corporation are behind the precinct.

Dexus Convenience Retail REIT fund manager Jason Weate said the complex would be ideal for motorists.
“Glass House Mountains will deliver a modern, full-service travel hub, enhancing convenience and connectivity for all who travel this key corridor, whether for work, leisure or long-haul transport,” he said.
Deluca Corporation managing director Nic De Luca said the facility will include EV charging stations, rooftop solar, rainwater harvesting and grey water re-use.
“We are committed to creating a state-of-the-art convenience retail hub that aligns with the future of sustainable energy and consumer needs,” he said.

The site is expected to be completed by December.
About 300 to 400 people will be employed for the works.
The southbound site will remain operational throughout the development period. Attention will turn to modernising that site once the northbound precinct is open.
