This Is Incomplete Without You
A pink space of labour and gloss, This Is Incomplete Without You is an installation that considers the state of the passenger in transit. With clusters of video, sculpture, sound and text, this work navigates systems of transit as a way to map relational entanglement. This work is a direct response to Ruby Donohoe’s residency at Sub Tropic Studio at the Caloundra bus terminus and her three-hour public transport commute to and from the studio.

Claudia Chan Shaw
ADFAS (Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Societies) is welcoming well known designer, author and presenter, Claudia Chan Shaw for two arts talks. As a cultural tour leader for the Art Gallery Society NSW, she has led Art Deco tours to culture capitals including Shanghai, Miami, Cuba, New York and Singapore. On June 17 for Art Deco Style – Fashion and Jewellery, she will explore from the textile designs of Sonia Delaunay to the poster girls of Shanghai and the luxury of Cartier. On June 18 for Art Deco Sydney, she will look at the persistent presence of a visual culture defined not only through architecture, but also graphic and interior design, the decorative arts and photography. Drinks and nibbles are served after each lecture and you will be able to talk with Claudia.

The Barleyshakes
Adored for their “bent” Irish sound, the Barleyshakes are winners of the Queensland Music Award for World Music. Recently returned from their tours of NZ, outback Queensland and FNQ, the Shakes will play fresh material as well as old favourites. Ever since their inception in the ’90s in Dublin, the Barleyshakes have injected new life into Irish music.

The Voice – It’s Time to Listen
The Sunshine Coast Reconciliation Group will hold a public talk at two locations on the Voice to Parliament referendum proposal. This seminar features First Nations speakers addressing the Voice to Parliament proposal. Entry includes refreshments.

Island Charity Swim
The much-anticipated swim, now in its 21st year, is set to make waves as participants, volunteers, and sponsors come together to support local special schools. With an ambitious fundraising target of over $100,000, this year’s event aims to make a significant difference in the lives of students with special needs. Swimmers of all abilities will test their endurance, embarking on a challenging 11km open-water swim. It was rescheduled from May 13.

Creating Wearable Art – The Secrets: With Denise Lamby
Join Denise Lamby on a collaborative adventure and turn jumbled tea bag tags into a wearable artwork worthy of catwalk display. Themes include formulating a vision, planning, working with materials, overcoming doubt and just getting started. Participants will create components, problem solve and collaborate towards the end goal of a finished garment while leanring skills along the way.

Estampa

ArtWorkz – Art for Everyone
Artists from across the Sunshine Coast will exhibit their creations at this event, which is in its third year and is becoming a must-do in the community art sector. Hosted by local disability support organisations Equity Works and Spiral, the event celebrates the valuable contribution people living with disability make to all aspects of community life. ArtWorkz aims to raise awareness and engagement around inclusivity of people of all walks of life and the therapeutic benefits of engaging in creativity.

Grand Kyiv Ballet of Ukraine
From the trauma and heartbreak of war in their country, to the major cities of USA and Europe. Now to the stages of New Zealand and Australia … this is the Grand Kyiv Ballet of Ukraine. It was formed in 2014 by the premier dancer of the National Opera of Ukraine, Oleksandr Stoianov, who is renowned for his high jumps, energy and is known as the modern Nureyev. The company performs a diverse range of classical repertoire, including legendary ballets Forest Song, Don Quixote, Swan Lake, Giselle, and Carmen Suite, as well as other contemporary ballets. Since the outbreak of war in 2022, at the request of their families, the Grand Kyiv Ballet have remained outside of Ukraine.

SEA LIFE Trust Global Beach Clean
SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast Aquarium is hosting its annual clean-up event, in line with World Oceans Day and the inaugural Mooloolaba Whale Welcoming Weekend. Locals and visitors are encouraged to join hands to make a positive impact on the environment and protect our delicate marine environments from the plague of plastics. The beach clean will be part of the Whale Welcoming Weekend. Working closely with Visit Sunshine Coast and other local businesses, the hope is to create a milestone event that will become a tradition for years to come.
