The manager of a Coast shopping centre says the response to the opening of its off-leash dog park – complete with dog-treat vending machine – has been very positive.

Taking your furry friend out for a treat or to a dog-friendly cafe is now even easier since the opening of Sunshine Plaza Paws Park.

As the only shopping complex on the Coast offering an off-leash dog park, the Plaza may just be setting a trend for the region.

The mini dog park is located behind Woolworths on Plaza Parade, near the dog-friendly Banjo’s Bakery Cafe.

The space is fully fenced so owners can safely exercise and socialise their dogs in a leash-free environment. The facility includes seating, water, dog waste bins and a shaded area.

The space can accommodate about 10-15 dogs at one time, dependent on size.

Sunshine Plaza centre manager Michael Manwaring said Paws Park was created to provide nearby residents with a space to exercise their dogs within walking distance of their home.

“Sunshine Paws Park has been a positive addition to the centre,” he said.

“Residents and their pets can also enjoy the amenities that Sunshine Plaza offers, with dog-friendly cafes including Coca Bar and Banjo’s in close proximity to Paws Park.

“Treats aren’t offered at Paws Park, however there is a dog-treat vending machine located inside the centre.

“The vending machine treats are from Chewy Chews, an all-natural, premium treat option for dogs.

“It has been a positive response from the surrounding community and residents.”

The mini-dog park was funded by Sunshine Plaza, with the build taking less than a month in late 2022.

Me Manwaring said Sunshine Plaza Paws Park was monitored for the regular removal of bin waste and security observed the area as part of regular centre patrols.
