Construction has begun on a 15-floor office tower that will be home to more than 800 workers in the Maroochydore CBD.

The design of 50 First Avenue will feature a grand lobby space with soaring ceilings, concierge desk and cafe with a panoramic rooftop providing views of the beach and hinterland.

The tower will offer office space with some of Maroochydore’s largest floors, measuring greater than 1000sqm per level.

Each floor will have more than 1000sqm.

David Gallant, developer Walker Corporation’s chief executive officer, said 50 First Avenue would suit companies looking to tap into the talent available on the Sunshine Coast.

“50 First Avenue has the ability to attract big tenants and create hundreds of great jobs for the future for our Sunshine Coast locals,” Mr Gallant said.

“This is a signature statement from Walker offering the highest sustainability credentials and exceptional workplace facilities, catering for a modern, flexible workforce.

“50 First Avenue symbolises our placemaking vision with our project partners, SunCentral and Sunshine Coast Council, to create a dynamic, vibrant and active location where people love to work, live and socialise.”

Deputy Premier Steven Miles was on hand for the ceremonial sod-turning on Wednesday.

“The Sunshine Coast is one of the fastest-growing regions and developing economies in the country,” he said.

“People are moving to the Sunshine Coast in droves, thanks to the employment opportunities and great lifestyle.

“Maroochydore is the major economic hub of the Sunshine Coast and the Queensland Government will continue to support the delivery of this new city centre, providing economic development and much-needed infrastructure.”

Officials turn the first sod on 50 First Avenue on Wednesday.

The building will take advantage of the new high-speed submarine cable, giving some of the fastest data rates in the world.

The building will be built to achieve a NABER’s 5-star energy rating. It will also provide tenants with end-of-trip facilities, including bike storage, showers, amenities and lockers.

Work has started on 50 First Avenue.

Mayor Mark Jamieson welcomed the start of construction of what will be the newest neighbour to Sunshine Coast City Hall.

“50 First Avenue will introduce a next-level standard of commercial office accommodation to the Maroochydore City Centre with outstanding sustainability credentials to match,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“Our development partner Walker has a proven track record in delivering outstanding precincts such as Parramatta Square and Collins Square and we look forward to seeing the completion of the first of many premium commercial projects in the Maroochydore City Centre.”

There will be a concierge desk and cafe in the building.

SunCentral chair Morgan Parker said 50 First Avenue would add another dimension to the Coast.

“Maroochydore City Centre continues to grow rapidly as our region’s central hub for commerce, technology and innovation, and spectacular buildings like 50 First Avenue will become the benchmark for our future success,” he said.

The Maroochydore City Centre Priority Development Area is being delivered through a partnership between Sunshine Coast Council, Walker Maroochydore Developments Pty Ltd and SunCentral Maroochydore Pty Ltd. The agreement will see more than $2.5 billion of private sector investment flow into the project over the coming decade.
