Rehabilitation and resurfacing works are about to commence on one of the Coast’s busiest roads.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads will soon begin the works on Caloundra Road between Little Mountain and Caloundra, providing a new road surface for the 50,000 motorists who use the road each day.

Repairs will also be carried out on the guardrails at the Duck Holes Creek, near Industrial Avenue on Caloundra Road.

Works are scheduled to begin later this month and are expected to take about four months to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Works will not be conducted during the Christmas and New Year period between mid-December and early January.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the resurfacing was important to Caloundra’s tourism industry.

“Caloundra is and always has been a popular tourist destination, and the pristine beaches of Kings, Moffats and Caloundra attract thousands of holidaymakers, which is why this important rehabilitation and resurfacing works are being prioritised,” he said.

“The key to economic growth in any region is safe and efficient transport links and that is why the Queensland Government is planning for the future by upgrading both carriageways, which will assist the commercial and tourism industries to continue to thrive.

“In an effort to reduce impacts to nearby businesses and residences, we’ve ensured these works are undertaken in the evenings between 7pm and 6am, Sunday to Thursday, and will not be conducted during the Christmas shutdown period between mid-December 2023 and early January 2024.

“These works will be carried out between Sugar Bag Road and the Nicklin Way roundabout intersections, and traffic will be reduced to a single lane to ensure connectivity is maintained, with detours in place for when works occur at intersections.”
