A chamber of commerce president who has served for nine years on its executive team has been awarded life membership.
Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce’s Brendan Bathersby, who has been its president for the past five years, received the life membership honour at the recent AGM.
“I’m very honoured to be awarded life membership of the Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce,” he said.
“It’s been a really rewarding and fulfilling time as we’ve worked to steady the ship and move into positive territory from a membership, sponsorship and financial perspective.
“Personally it’s also an honour for me to be mentioned among other well-known local business and community identities who have received life membership of our chamber, including John Schroder, Leigh Rachow, Melinda Shelton, Myles McNamara and former Maroochydore councillor Gillian Taylor.”
At the AGM Mr Bathersby was re-elected unopposed as president for a further 12-month term.
“Our chamber is in a very strong position at the moment but we all know that there is still much more that we need to achieve in the next year and beyond, in particular the focus on advocating for the delivery of passenger rail into the Maroochydore CBD,” he said.
Mr Bathersby thanked outgoing committee members including treasurer Lachlan Ballinger, secretary Charmain Bastian along with Will Thompson, Simon Rub and Mat Walker for their outstanding contribution.
New committee members include Cameron Klupfel from Evolve Accounting along with Richard Van Lohuizen from Shine Lawyers, Simone Bell from GSL media (Mix and Sea FM), Lauren Smith from Smith Madden Creative Agency, Paul Robertson from BBC Digital and Will Wilson from Watermark Constructions.
Current executive committee members vice-president Jakki Goodall, Peppi Bueti, Anita Piers and Richard Turnbull will continue in 2024.
