Residents are being urged to share their vision for a popular riverside area.

Locals can have their say on the Noosaville foreshore, via an online survey, while Noosa Council shapes a masterplan for the area.

Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart said the shoreline there was “loved by many”.

“Thousands upon thousands of locals go there,” she said.

“People walk there in the morning, we have coffee shops there, bike riders, people walking their dogs, families frequenting the area, we see live music on Friday nights, and it’s a hub for birthday parties, anniversaries and weddings.

“(Plus there’s) swimming, sailing and dining – the foreshore hosts many much-loved social and recreational activities.

“It’s a crucial part of our community, which is why it’s important that our residents provide feedback.”

The Noosaville foreshore includes parklands, trails and amenities.

Cr Stewart said she relished her visits to the foreshore.

“When I was a young mother, with a two-year-old and one-year-old, living in a unit not far from Gympie Terrace, we would walk there in the afternoon and feed the ducks and spend some time playing in the sand and in the water,” she said.

Noosa Council’s website says the infrastructure along the foreshore is ageing and that facilities need upgrading.

The council said infrastructure planning was needed to consider the community’s diverse needs and growth, cultural heritage and climate change impacts such as increased heatwaves, river flooding, sea level rise and storm tide inundation, which were identified in a Coastal Hazards Adaptation Plan and Climate Change Response Plan.

The Noosaville foreshore runs for kilometres along the Noosa River.

Cr Stewart said the infrastructure master plan would be developed during the next six months.

“(It) will be the compass that guides future changes to the precinct to enhance the area for the local community and visitors,” she said via a media release.

“We’ll be engaging key management agencies and community stakeholders, such as youth, businesses, water sports groups, river industry groups and charities through stakeholder workshops, as well as giving an opportunity for all residents to have a say by visiting our community pop-up stalls or providing feedback online.”

Cr Stewart said the existing Noosaville Foreshore Land Use Master Plan also provided the basis to inform future infrastructure planning for the precinct.

The online survey can be filled out until Monday, November 20, via Have Your Say.

There will also be information pop-up events on Saturday, October 28, at Pirate Park (9.30am to 11.30am), Apex Park (midday to 2pm) and the parkland on the riverside of the Thomas Street and Gympie Terrace roundabout (2.30pm to 4.30pm).

“Your contribution will help secure a vibrant future for Noosaville’s cherished foreshore for generations to come,” Cr Stewart said.

Some of the facilities along the shoreline need upgrading or replacing.

Council will review community input and develop a draft Noosaville Foreshore Infrastructure Plan during summer, before it engages further community consultation on the draft plan.

Council will then share the master plan with the community in June, with a summary of all key themes of feedback collected as well as council’s decision on future action.
