As the festive season approaches, excitement is building in anticipation of a dazzling showcase of creativity and holiday spirit.

Sunshine Coast News has joined with My Weekly Preview, Lighting Illusions, First National Coastal and Salt FM to give those who create Christmas magic the opportunity to share their festive flair with the Sunshine Coast community.

Sunshine Coast’s Christmas Lights Competition allows residents and businesses to register their display for the chance to win one of three prizes from a pool worth more than $4000.

“This competition brings families, friends and neighbours together in the spirit of festive celebration, to enjoy the magic of Christmas,” Lighting Illusions CEO Atif Shafi said.

Paul and Carmen West, who have a passion for everything Christmas, have been decorating their property at 347 Chevallum Road, Chevallum, for nine years.

“Over the years we’ve invested a lot of effort to create a large-scale drive-through experience to spread the Christmas message, which includes synchronising the lights with our very own radio station,” Mr West said.

The Wests’ display has about 175,000 lights and attracts more than 500 cars a night and has raised over $27,000 for charities since 2016.

“To help spread the cheer, we’re keen to enter our display in the competition and get a star on the Google Map, so a wider audience knows what to expect from our Christmas display, which will be even bigger this year,” Mrs West added.

First National Coastal Real Estate principal Paul Angell said his team enjoyed witnessing the amazing creativity of the Sunshine Coast community.

“We love that people take so much time to transform their homes and workplaces into Christmas wonderlands for passers-by to enjoy during the festive season,” he said.

“Our competition and our Google map helps share the magic with the community.”

Participants are encouraged to register their display via the website.

All displays entered will be highlighted on the Sunshine Coast Christmas Lights Google map, giving the community the opportunity to visit the best and brightest displays across the region.

Voting will be open to the public on December 1, with the winners announced on December 14.
