Mother Nature served up some tricky conditions for athletes at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships but provided great entertainment for spectators.
More than 8100 competitors had to contend with powerful and sometimes big surf, strong wind and a weekend of heavy rain, during the event on the Sunshine Coast.
The youngest generation of participants relished the chance to take on some of the largest waves of the carnival, before the masters and open athletes showed their experience.
There were thrills and spills in the surf off Maroochydore for water-based events, while beachgoers were treated a splash-a-thon at Alexandra Headland, where surf boats crews ploughed into the waves, and beach sprinters sent sand spraying at Mooloolaba.
