A road that would connect the region’s biggest master-planned community to the Pumicestone Passage and beyond has been flagged for the future.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has confirmed to Sunshine Coast News that land has been set aside for a road that will eventually link the Aura development at Caloundra South with Golden Beach.

It is understood the road would be an east-west link between Aura Boulevard and Pelican Waters Boulevard.

It would provide residents within Aura direct access to the beachside suburb and greater connectivity to the heart of Caloundra and Pelican Waters.

The road would be another link for the Caloundra South region after Bells Creek Arterial Road, which connects Caloundra Road to the Bruce Highway, opened last September.

A TMR spokesperson said land had been earmarked for the new connecting road, however little details were set in stone at this stage.

“Land has been set aside in the Aura development for a future road from Aura Boulevard to Pelican Waters Boulevard,” the spokesperson said.

“Funding and timelines for further detailed planning and construction of the east-west link are yet to be determined.

“Future funding availability will be determined in consideration of competing priorities across the state.”

The spokesperson said the department was continuing to focus on “higher priority” projects in Caloundra region.

“TMR is currently progressing priority planning for the Caloundra Road, Kawana Way Link Road and Bells Creek Arterial Road intersection.

“Options for staged upgrades to improve safety and reduce congestion are currently being investigated through a funded detailed business case.”

The current Aura masterplan, which is dated October 2023, shows a “potential future road” branching off Aura Boulevard, just north of Baringa.

The mapping shows the road could potentially connect with the roundabout at Pelican Waters Boulevard and Burke Street at Golden Beach.

The current Aura masterplan shows a ‘potential future road’ branching off Aura Boulevard.

The developer of Aura, Stockland, has declined to provide any further information on the link road.

Aura is Australia’s largest master-planned community and is currently home to more than 10,000 residents.

It is estimated the area will be home to more than 50,000 residents by 2050.
