Significant improvements are about to be made to a portion of the Bruce Highway on the Sunshine Coast.

Resurfacing works will this month start along a 7km stretch near Nambour, providing motorists with safer and smoother journeys.

The upgrades will be made to the southbound stretch between the Parklands interchange and the Kiel Mountain Road overpass.

In addition to the resurfacing of the main carriageway, the on- and off-ramps at the Bli Bli interchange will undergo asphalt rehabilitation work, requiring a detour for motorists wanting to exit or join the highway there during night works.

Works are set to start in mid-August, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Detour information will be communicated in advance via variable messaging signs.

Department of Transport and Main Roads regional director North Coast Scott Whitaker said the improvements would provide significant benefits to travellers.

“We know how vital the Bruce Highway is to the wider road network and this new road surface will be welcomed by more than 40,000 motorists who travel this section of the highway each day,” he said.

The works, along with the Cooroy Connection Road upgrade, form part of an $11 million package of asphalt resurfacing and rehabilitation.
