The Federal Government has approved $4.87 million in funding for 11 new road upgrade projects in the Sunshine Coast electorate of Fisher.

The funding is part of the government’s $1.5 billion Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program.

Federal Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace said that getting shovels in the ground on local construction projects was important for maintaining jobs and economic growth on the Sunshine Coast.

“Every single job we support makes a huge difference in our local community, now and as we build our way out of the pandemic. That is why we have moved quickly to approve funding to flow to no fewer than 11 projects in Fisher alone,” Mr Wallace said.

Projects paid for by this funding will include the construction of a new road from Scholars Drive to the Columbia St roundabout in Sippy Downs, the sealing of Citrus Road between Wilkins Lane and Eudlo School Road in Palmwoods, and the construction of pathway lighting to improve safety for families and children accessing Meridan Sports Precinct.

“On my Tour de Fisher I have seen how rough and dangerous some of these roads, especially in the hinterland, can be. Not only will this new program support jobs, construction businesses and economic growth across the Sunshine Coast, it will also improve road safety and bolster the resilience of our local road networks, helping Sunshine Coast locals to get home sooner and safer.” he said.

Other projects funded in this round include the resurfacing of McCarthy Road in Maleny, Bald Knob Road around Hodgens Road in Peachester, Old Gympie Road from Coonowrin Road and Sahara Road and Railway Street in Landsborough.

They also include construction of new bicycle and walking paths on Cromwell Street and Enfield Crescent in Battery Hill and between Bokarina and Warana along the Coastal Pathway. Pavements on King Road in Mooloolah Valley will also be rehabilitated from Maddock Avenue to Grove Boulevard.

“We will work closely with Sunshine Coast Council to ensure these local projects get underway and supporting jobs and businesses as soon as possible,” Mr Wallace said.
