A man has been winched from a car carrier vessel off the Sunshine Coast after he became unwell.

The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight rescue helicopter was tasked at 8.40pm last night to the ship, which was located 12km off the coast.

The pilot positioned the chopper over the vessel and winched down a Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic and rescue crewman to the deck.

Once on board, the QAS flight paramedic assessed and treated the patient.

The patient and aeromedical crew were then winched back into the helicopter.

The man, aged in his 60s, was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
